GHOSTS

I hesitate to tell this tale for fear you’ll think we’re mad.
‘Til now, we’ve shared it with a few who’ve similar visits had.
The story starts two years ago upon an evening’s jaunt.
Three friends went to a book signing, and then began the haunt.

Two psychics wrote the book, you see, and spoke about their visions.
They told us we have guardians to help us with decisions.
These guides they see are spiritual beings, the souls of those we know.
They send us messages from beyond, to help us as we go.

The ladies told us one by one who was our spiritual guide.
The details shared convinced us they were loved ones who had died.
There was no doubt mine was my dad and Phil had both his folks.
Heidi’s guide was more obscure, the source of nervous jokes.

The evening ended, life went on with nothing more from heaven.
Then one day Phil didn’t wake up. He was 47.
Enormous shock and disbelief played tricks within my head.
I heard him calling me for weeks though surely he was dead.

‘Tween dream and wake just after dawn again the voice I heard.
But this time he was in the room, speaking without word.
“Is it you?” I telegraphed. “It is,” was the response.
I asked what it was like and he described with eloquence.

“Who have you seen?” I wondered, and he carefully let me know:
“Some I didn’t expect at all, others have yet to show.
“It makes me wonder what I did that I would wind up here.
“I want you to tell Heidi that I’ve always been so near.”

The room was dark and filled with him, though nothing I could see.
Then instantly it emptied, and I was left with me.
I’d asked him to return sometime so I’d know he was okay.
He’d said he’d be delighted to before he went his way.

There have been other messages and things we can’t explain.
Dimes appearing everywhere, and sounds we cannot name.
Electronics on and off, the dog plays hide and seek.
Witnesses corroborate these happenings unique.

When these happenings occur, we take note and smile.
It seems Phil’s coming back again to hang around a while.
It’s comforting to know there’s more beyond the mortal veil.
Without these signs and messages, there wouldn’t be a tale.

Our house is haunted to be sure with several different ghosts.
We like to think that all of them are those who loved us most.

Happy Halloween!

Hi Davina! Thank you! It’s all true! When Pete and I were in the plane on our way to Alaska, there was a dime in the aisle between our seats. “Hello, Phil.”

  3. This brought a tear to my eye! HOW SAD AND SWEET! (It’s hard to lay off the !!! when commenting on this!!)

Hi Kathy – I know! (there’s another ! for good measure) I’ve always felt “things” here and there, and remained somewhat skeptical, but no longer! We’ll find out for sure someday.

Wow Betsy – what an amazing story. I’m guessing Phil’s your ex-husband right? And he’s been able to communicate with you after death?

My parents had a strange experience the night my Granda died that left them with no doubt he was in the room. There’s definitely something in it. I wonder if we’ll ever know exactly what happens after we die. And would it help us if we did?

  6. Betsy Wuebker says:

Hi Cath – No, Phil was a dear friend of mine, and yes, he’s been communicating with us in the different ways I described. I think we will know and then we can do the same thing!

  7. Cath Lawson says:

That is brilliant – I’d still like to know where we’re going to be communicating from though. Do you remember the film – “Ghost”? I wonder if it’s anything like that.

Hi Cath – the impression I got from the “visit” was that we’re vaporous. It seemed as though Phil was in every molecule of air in the room when we were communicating, and the room definitely felt empty immediately after we concluded. We haven’t tried to formally summon him, but when we talk about him or there is skepticism, he makes a little move by leaving a dime or messing up electronics. For example, when Pete and I flew to Alaska this summer, there was a dime smack dab center in the aisle between us (we always take opposing aisle seats for more leg room). It was like, “Oh, hiya Phil.”

Another time, my teenage daughter and I were in an elevator – after she had told someone she thought I was off my rocker about this, and instead of going down it went up to 6, down to 4, up to 5 and down to 4, and then finally down to 1 where we wanted. June 4, 1954 is my birthday. Phil knew it because his is in June, too. We ran out of the building to the car! hahaha
