Hi Friar - Pete and I truly believe they did make it! What sealed the deal for us was seeing the found implements - which were made out of alloys common only to Europe during the 1300's. It is hard to believe they would've been "planted" as part of a hoax. The people finding them were just not sophisticated enough to pull that off.

We are planning more on this, so I'll keep you up on new posts.

Awesome post! It's actually a nice change to read and learn something historical, written in everyday English. There needs to be more blogs like this!

Wouldnt' that be AWESOME if the Vikings had actually made it as far as Minnesota!?

(And there was even an mention of a Friar in here too !). Heh heh heh.

What MORE can you ask for? :-D

Friar´s last blog post..No Soup for Me!

Hi Brett and Steph - Isn't the story of the runestone the coolest? After having seen the artifats in the museum and looking at the methods used to authentiate them - axes, mooring stones, and the like - I am a believer!

Steph - Thank you for the heads up on the incomplete Sentinel post. My internet connection was acting up big time last night and evidently burped out a hybrid of I don't know what! Thank you for your kind comments! When I visit places like these I feel something of those who were there before. Glad you can relate.

Okay, this might just be my idiocy but I read your latest post, sentinel, and I can't figure out how to comment! I don't see anything to click or any space like this to write it. There's just the post!

So i'll say here, wow. Another awesome post. I love the way you told the story. You and I think very much alike. I too would have been thinking of the people who had lived there before, touched this, lay here, at one time scratched that. What were they thinking then? What did they experience? What happinesses, heartaches, anger, ecstasy?

steph´s last blog post..What I Know For Sure

I'm with Brett on this one! Great post!

I love history and you combined it with your present-day ruminations to produce a very interesting read. Thanks!

Betsy,

This is the single most interesting thing I have read in a long time - the Norsemen certainly left their mark on our world.

Thank you for sharing this - I shall read more about it.

And what you said about our runes... yes, interesting to think about.

-Brett
