Okay Betsy - those self checkouts - I despise the things!! Our local grocery store just remodeled, and put in four of these. Of course our kids think this is cool. Me - not anywhere near cool. I think I have yet to use these machines without requiring assistance from an employee. Inevitably something doesn't scan properly and the machine locks up. In fact, one time we had the assistance lady actually check our items out while we stood there and watched - because she'd already visited us three time (for each of our first three items). I just haven't seen it being that much faster. Maybe they can get by with one or two fewer people working - but if this is leading to customer frustration - is it worth it???

Hi Betsy. Good customer service seems so old fashioned these days. It is a shame!

The good side of this is when I do receive good customer service I appreciate it ten-fold. There is a restaurant chain that I have to give a plug to here and that is Swiss Chalet. At one restaurant in particular near my home, the service is unbelievably good.

The rudeness you've described seems to be increasing. And I'm still shaking my head about what happened to Cath. I HAVE missed her and feel horrible for the frustration she's had to endure. She adds a lot of value and realness to the online world. I check my reader every day waiting for her newest. I know she'll be back in the saddle as soon as she is ready. Giddyup Cath... I hope you are taking care of yourself.

And speaking of taking care of yourself, I like how Barbara has made room in her life to do what she needs to do. I would hate to have to miss two favourite bloggers.

Hi Betsy - I hear you when you talk about gag fests in stores (and offices, too) when there are customers who are struggling, waiting for service, or wanting to ask a question. Like you, it's hard for me to sympathize when I hear their stocks/sales decline. It's really not hard to figure out why.

Oddly enough, as I write this, I am waiting to hear from Akismet, as my comments are starting to be marked as spam. Hence, I've stopped using my URL so the comment will hopefully go into moderation and not the spam folder. If you're like me, it could be a full time job checking for real comments in the spam file.

Thank you for the link love. Although I've cut back on my blogging schedule, the blog is always in the back of my head. It's become such a part of my life, I can't see ever not blogging. I'm hoping the change in schedule allows me the time to find that balance between my online and offline worlds. So far, so good (or as soon as Akismet fixes my problem).
