Hi Lori - Thank you! I was lucky to have superlative teachers who emphasized the "story" in "history." I've been fascinated by it forever, and it's one of my fondest things to share that fascination with others. I'm glad you enjoyed it.

Hi Jannie - LOL you're right - it's the Burton look. My brother has it, and my daughter and his son have it, too. Put all our toddler photos up next to my mother and they're pretty much interchangeable. It seems to me there was a lot more nippin' going on back then than today, though. Although, I do remember asking a friend on the phone was it drinking alone if we were talking to each other? Thanks!

What an amazing post, what a famiy tribute!

Those Linmar Gardens look like heaven.

And I know a certain little baby in a bucket who looks an awful lot like her mother when her mother was a small child.

And your ancedote about a housewife taking a nip, makes me now go for my little nip -- hey it's almsot 5:00. :)

If my history and social studies classes had been this engaging, I might have enjoyed them more. You weave a wonderful story that makes the reader feel a part of it all and appreciative of the more resilient generations that guided this country.

Hi Lisa - I think getting reacquainted with your family is something that becomes more interesting once time has elapsed. I've wished that the photos my mother had would've had more ID's as to who was in them. It's hard when everyone is gone to reconstruct. Thanks for your comment.

Hi Jack and Diane - It was great seeing you again, too! So wonderful to reconnect and I think the guests of honor enjoyed themselves, too. See you soon!

Hi Barbara - I really enjoy old photographs, too, and have often daydreamed of going back to their time. It's interesting to compare what places look like nowadays, too, if they're still around. And you're right, the Depression was far more difficult. Thank you.

Hi Betsy,

What a wonderful story. You've not only paid tribute to Bob and Mary, but shared more of yourself with us.

I love all of the photos you included. I always find so much joy in looking at the old blacks and whites (photos) and wondering how their lives were "back then". When I look at what the country is going through now and think back to The Great Depression, I'm guessing we have it pretty easy.

What a great jount down memory lane. Looking at the photos reminds me of what my mother used to look like when I was born. Sweet memories.

It's kind of amazing how life works. I know my father has gotten back into his family roots, visiting cousins long since unvisited. He's having a great time rediscovering his family. He takes me with him with his stories of cousin lunches.

80 years is definitely a milestone to be proud of. Thanks for sharing this. :)

Hi Debbie - You're right. The scale is mind-boggling. Remember, this is the culmination of over 30 years of work. It's so gorgeous and an enormous amount of work. Thank you.

Hi Patricia - I am so glad you enjoyed this glimpse into our family history. There are many more photos of all, and Pete is working on the rest of the garden photos, too. Thank you.

Hi Jay - I knew you would love these. On the same page of the album where we scanned Mary and Bob's photos is a lovely photo of you from the same time - perhaps it is your high school or college graduation? How my mother treasured your friendship! I am so glad to be able to share with you and Frank, and it was so wonderful to see you last year. Thank you.

So honored to see this! Especially your mother's wedding picture. Pete's pictures are excellent. Frank's comment was, "It's really well-written". Thanks for including us on the list. Jay

What a lovely and personal history lesson and garden walk...
Thank you so much for sharing this and the beautiful pictures...I learn so much more from this kind of history lesson...
Though I love history - this way just makes it better.
Love the poems too
Thank you for sharing such lovely work
