Flying with Allegiant to Las Vegas from Honolulu and back was a great experience!
We’re back from an extended weekend in Las Vegas as guests of Allegiant Travel! As one of three winners in a recent blogger competition, we were excited to be back in Las Vegas after so many years. Allegiant and its partners with the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Association treated us to a wonderful time! And guess what?!
Allegiant will provide two roundtrip ticket vouchers for us to give away to one lucky recipient!
Allegiant Travel Company has been making vacation dreams come true for over 15 years. As a low-cost domestic carrier, its subsidiary Allegiant Air focuses on bringing travelers from smaller-sized markets to world-class destinations. We caught our early morning Las Vegas flight in Honolulu, after flying in from our home airport of Lihue, Kauai the night before.
To be honest, we don’t particularly look forward to mainland economy class runs from Hawaii. They’re long and crowded. I always get the person in front of me who reclines their seat all the way, too. Hello? Here let me rub your head as long it’s in my lap!
We were among the first to try Allegiant’s new Giant Seats (available on their Boeing 757 planes), which were added in April. Folks, this is the way to go. For a competitive upgrade price, you’re sitting in a roomy, first-class sized seat in either a bulkhead or exit row. It’s a comfortable ride (two seats per row) with additional leg room. We’ll be all in on this option on future flights to the mainland.
Allegiant’s business model will be familiar to travelers who have flown low-cost European airlines. You pay a low fare and then select from an add-on buffet. You’ll pay for checked and carry-on luggage, seat upgrades, priority boarding, food and drink. We chose not to pre-pay for priority boarding; we found Allegiant’s boarding process to be efficient and orderly.
Allegiant offers a variety of food and beverage options. Menu selections were snack packs and individually sized sweets and savory snacks. We chose fresh sandwiches and the fruit and cheese plate. Hawaiians will recognize regional favorites on Hawaii flights: Koloa Mai Tai, macadamia nuts, Maui onion chips and more. Prices were competitive, and in some cases less expensive, than airport food. Interestingly, there is no hot coffee offered. We would have loved some that early in the morning.
Can we just all agree on no grumpy flight attendants ever? Allegiant flight crew were cheerful and swift in their service process. Our five hour flight had three separate aisle service runs. Flight attendants were quick to respond with a smile.
All in all, our experience with Allegiant from Honolulu to Las Vegas and back was the most positive we’ve had with any carrier to the mainland.
