Since we achieved location independence several years ago, we’ve tackled the bucket list with fervor. Now we’re kicking it up another notch.
It’s been a series of great experiences since we declared location independence. In the beginning, we were more about explaining to people what our concept of location independence is not. What we found is:
- Some folks were committed to misunderstanding what we were up to no matter how much we tried to explain, so we stopped trying. We’re okay with being “weird” according to their definition. 🙂
- Others were indulgent enough so that, even though they may not quite have understood what this “thing” was all about, they offered support. Thank you, and you know who you are. It’s appreciated more than you could imagine. 🙂
- There is a sizable community of like-minded individuals world-wide who treasure their location independence, and it’s growing by leaps and bounds every day. Just Google location independence or digital nomads. 🙂
When we shared that we were selling everything and moving to Kauai from the mainland, a similar reaction process occurred. By then, we knew what to expect, and it was all good.
We’ve had a wonderful time in our two years here on Kauai, but it’s time to take another plunge. After our big trip to Europe and the Winter Olympics earlier this year, we came home a bit disoriented. We rested up for a bit and then were off on a quick blogger trip to Vegas. Coming back, we knew what needed to be done.
We’ve decided to continue our travels and have realized that to accomplish our goals we can’t do it with a home base. And so in September we begin another adventure in location independence! We’re headed from Kauai to Fiji for a couple of months, and from there, we’ll be traveling around the world for the next two years, at least!
As Pete recently emailed the family, “Kauai has been a most wonderful time. It is beautiful as are the many new friends we’ve made…We are sad to leave this true paradise but we are excited for what is to come.” We’re expecting international guests next month, and after they leave, so will we. Wish us luck in the comments!
