We’ve been busy with prep on Kauai ahead of Hurricane Iselle, but I decided to take some photos around the neighborhood and play with iPhone camera apps.
Since we’ve been busy ahead of Hurricane Iselle with preparations for the hurricane, normal blogging routine has been disrupted. 🙂
Power outages are to be expected even before Hurricane Iselle gets here. If they’re lengthy, you’re going to want drinking water, as well as a separate supply for other uses. We’ve frozen containers of this size and filled our freezer. Others are refrigerated. After our morning showers today, we’ll be filling large garbage bags with water to have handy for flushing, etc.
Stocking up on other provisions ahead of Hurricane Iselle, and her big brother Julio who is following behind her, reminded me of what we’d do on the mainland when a blizzard was coming: groceries, liquor store, ATM, top of the car’s gas tank, etc.
While there may have been rising apprehension among humans, Mother Nature’s beauty was on display just as if Hurricane Iselle wasn’t coming at all throughout the week.
Our landlord’s little beach camp on Wainiha Bay, where we have barbecues and bonfires, has already taken a beating earlier this year during periods of high surf here on the North Shore.
High surf has also eroded the shoreline and altered the Wainiha River mouth in the bay. Hope we don’t lose more trees.
Surf has been fairly calm throughout the week.
These delicate orchids are hidden in the foliage along the pathway to our door.
We’ll spend the rest of the morning with final preparations, but we’re as ready as we’ll ever be for Hurricane Iselle.
