Jim Cheney’s Choose a Way: Philadelphia is a terrific conceptual travel guide that will help you discover the City of Brotherly Love detail by detail, day by day.
Having visited Philadelphia a couple of times, I was interested when a fellow travel blogger asked me to review a new guidebook he was publishing on the City of Brotherly Love. Jim Cheney, who can be found at UncoveringPA.com, is a writer and photographer based in Harrisburg. His latest offering, Choose a Way: Philadelphia, has a sufficient number of sightseeing activities to fill up a 5 day visit.
Choose a Way guides combine all the good aspects of a traditional travel guide with an interactive choice function. Blocked in units of time, Choose a Way: Philadelphia has you make a selection out of a group of interesting activities. Click on your choice’s hyperlink and you are taken to a more detailed page with a description of the experience and directions to its location. This is very much an insider’s guide, with a number of helpful tips on making the most of your stay in addition to the engaging format.
All told, the Choose a Way: Philadelphia guide includes 39 places to visit throughout the city. These range from mainstream to offbeat, things that will interest kids, adults-only activities, mainstream don’t miss, and quirky little off-beat attractions. There are things to do morning, noon and night, allowing you to plan an ideal day’s itinerary for the length of your stay. With a full index, you can always go off the guide’s recommended pathways, too.
It has been several years since we visited Philadelphia, and we know we left many things undiscovered. Because we concentrated on the “big ticket” attractions then, I was interested to see whether Choose a Way: Philadelphia would be of help to us in a subsequent visit. The answer is “YES!” If you’re considering a visit to Philadelphia, or if you live in the area and anticipate visitors, we highly recommend this guide.
