For weekends or longer, Escape Hua Hin Thailand provides an affordable full service resort experience suitable for families, couples and single vacationers.
Our Experience: Escape Hua Hin reimagines the traditional Thai red fishing village, which is a signature element of Hua Hin’s historic beach atmosphere of sun, sand and sea.
Although the hotel’s location is on a busy main road, traffic noise is buffered by the hotel services and restaurant at the front, with guest room buildings clustered around the oblong central pool. The beach is reached via a private walkway approximately 100 meters in length. We stayed in a Deluxe Poolside Room decorated in cheery red-accented “sun-inspired” décor. The king bed was comfortable with floating built-in nightstands and entertainment center with 32” LCD TV on cable. There was a lovely fragrance in the room; the décor incorporates scent as well as tactile and visual elements. And there was a bedside audio system for music or white noise: we could have fallen asleep to the sounds of ocean surf should we have chosen. The snack and mini-bar area came equipped with electric kettle, refrigerator, cold drinks, gift-y items and snacks. Our closet was replete with cool cotton robes, beach bags, beach flipflops, umbrella and slippers. Escape’s Red Coral restaurant is attractively conceptualized as a “Taste of the Ocean” with décor, menu and signature cocktails from one of Thailand’s top mixologists. We enjoyed the ample breakfast buffet from which we could choose a large variety of Western and Thai dishes. In the evenings, you can order off an extensive menu, or you can choose the fixed price menu with choices of barbecued meat, seafood, and sides. Room service is available from 7:00-23:00. Afternoon tea is served with an “After You” dessert, and Happy Hour is held from 5:00-7:00pm with buy one get one on certain drinks and beers. Tuk-tuk service on the hour is available to major shopping hubs and the Hua Hin Night Market. There are additional beach activities such as horseback riding, kite surfing, fly boarding and jet skiing. In the mornings between 6-7a.m. you can purchase a special alms packet to give to the local monks on the beach. Morning yoga is offered, and there is a substantial DVD and board game library. On site security operates 24 hours per day.
A couple of details which no doubt will get the attention they deserve: 1) because Escape is designed as just that, an escape, there was a lack of comfortable computer workspace in our room. Even though internet signal was strong, the room environment just wasn’t a match for our particular needs as digital nomads. Pete solved this by working in one of the conference rooms. 2) The canvas roman shade in our bathroom, which provided privacy in our walk-in shower, needed a minor spot treatment for mildew (certainly not the first time we’ve encountered this in humid, tropical climates). 3) Water temperature in our shower was refreshing, but not as hot as we might have preferred. This has been a rather common occurrence for us in Thailand, certainly not unique to Escape Hua Hin.
Favorite Details: The pool at Escape Hua Hin isn’t overly large, but it’s made for fun with floating accessories and comfy oversized cushion lounges, and very convenient to the restaurant and bar for snacks and drinks.
We loved the beach bag and cotton robes, as well as the ability to step right out to the pool area. The room’s mini-bar options were among the most unique and thoughtful in our entire stay in Thailand, including the family-friendly Escape Signature Collection: board games, playing cards, bubble blower, tote bag, sandals, waterproof phone case and whitening toothpaste. When we asked for more coffee (there is rarely enough for us), at our door within a few minutes was a smiling employee who had run to the store to purchase a family-size packet which has now lasted us weeks and several hotels later. This was above and beyond!
The buildings themselves have vintage Thai elements like double wooden doors and bamboo privacy screens. High-end toiletries were in generous pump bottles with pleasant fragrance.
One thing we must mention; upon checkout, Escape’s manager asked a question no one has ever asked: “What suggestions do you have which would help improve our ability to deliver a great experience here at Escape?” We had previously observed a lengthy staff meeting where it was obvious the discussion revolved around proper service protocols, and we’d had a trainee shadowing our wait staff during dinner. It’s very clear Escape takes its commitment to impeccable customer service very seriously. The personable sincerity displayed by every individual we encountered was remarkable. It seemed as though everyone had almost a sixth sense of what they could do to make our stay the best it could be, and everything was delivered with a smile and pleasant conversation. Truly above and beyond in every way.

Our Rating: **** (4 out of 5 stars) In our estimation, Escape Hua Hin comes in with amenities in the high three/low four star spectrum on a traditional hotel scale. But the huge difference at Escape is the service. Memorable efforts such as the extra coffee and attention to other details on our behalf bring Escape Hua Hin solidly into four-star territory. Escape is an affordable destination for families, couples and solo travelers convenient to Bangkok for a weekend or a longer stay.
Disclosure: Our Deluxe Poolside Room and all meals, beverages and services we enjoyed were compliments of Escape Hua Hin.
