Aloha! Are you looking for a mature, caring, responsible and reliable couple for housesitting your property and pets? Look no further! We’re ready to help!
We’re U.S. citizens, but we’re also digital nomads – meaning we travel the world, working on our internet businesses from anywhere with a connection. This kind of freedom is great, and it will be for you, too!
We LOVE to travel, as you might have guessed, but SLOW travel suits us best, as we have the opportunity to get to know your part of the world. This means your extended plans can happen without worry – we’ll give your pets and your home the kind treatment they deserve!
Crazy About Dogs and Other Pets
We’ve grown up and lived with dogs of all sizes from Pekingese to Labrador. Betsy is Crazy About Dogs (and has a Pinterest board by that name). We adored our Little Daisy, and have missed her since she passed on. We do have two grand-dogs, a chocolate Lab – Autumn – and a black Lab – Maverick, but they live in Minnesota so we don’t get to see them much.
Once our travel plans took shape, we decided that we’d love to be doggy grandparents to your precious pooch(es) instead of having our own! If entrusted with their care, we appreciate foremost that this is a beloved member of your family who thrives on love and social interaction.
Lately we’ve found ourselves looking after larger dogs. Check out these beautiful, happy faces from Kaua’i and Fiji!
Then we moved on to these precious pups!
Pete manages a minor allergy with Claritin, so we’re happy to look after one indoor cat, and any number of outdoor cats. We’ve had several cats who lived around our home in Kauai and enjoyed their antics. In his younger days, Pete bred and sold fancy tropical fish, so can maintain environments and apparatus in accordance with their needs.
Home and Property Care
After decades of home ownership, we have two lifetimes of experience to properly look after your home while you are gone. You can be sure that we’ll treat your property with respect. In turn, housesitting for you will allow us the time to get to know your part of the world better.
We’re familiar with what’s necessary to maintain and efficiently run houses in a variety of environments, from cold weather to tropical. Pete’s familiar with plumbing and electrical systems, private water systems, power generators, lawn and yard maintenance equipment, and basic boat and vehicle maintenance. We both enjoy a clean, uncluttered interior environment. When you return, your home will be as it was when you left, or maybe even better!
How Does Housesitting Work for You?
First of all, we don’t charge for basic housesitting services. We take care of your place and your pets in exchange for a place to stay. Pete’s an avid vegetable gardener and handy with tools, so if minor repairs are needed, they can be done. Betsy knows her way around a flower garden, and has a clean sink fetish (don’t judge!). We look for assignments that are in safe areas with comfortable and clean accommodations, just as you would. If you have extra needs, we are happy to discuss and come to an arrangement.
What Should We Expect From Each Other?
When we make an agreement, we’ll be there as promised. Likewise, barring an emergency, we expect you to follow through with your plans – as we’ve more than likely invested in transportation to get to where you live. Clear departure and arrival dates, as we are subject to your plans when arranging when to be at your home, and subsequent travel depending upon your plans.
When we stay at your place, we’ll do shopping and errands during the day around your pet’s schedule, and we never leave a home unattended overnight. We’ll keep house and grounds tidy and clean, water plants and garden, pick up mail, put out the garbage, deal with emergencies calmly and competently (did we tell you about when we defended a property we were housesitting from bush fire? click here for that story), and update you frequently by email with photos.
In exchange, we’d need a workspace (table and chair) suitable for two laptop computers (doesn’t have to be together), a stable and speedy internet connection (we can come to an agreement about data use), a bedroom with a queen-sized bed (or larger is fine, too!) as well as kitchen and laundry access.
Over the past few years, we’ve traveled extensively throughout North America. While making our home in Hawaii, we visited Europe and Russia. Now we’re concentrating on our goal of visiting all seven continents. Since September, 2014, we’ve been completely nomadic, with visits to Fiji, Australia, Southeast Asia, China, Central America and throughout Europe. We currently have an opening in Panama for about 3 weeks in January, and then flexible availability beginning in February, 2018 through mid-May, 2018.
