Travel in the Lap of Luxury to Dallas for an Upscale Getaway

By Betsy Wuebker 2 Comments

(Last Updated On: February 7, 2020)

Even if you can’t always splurge everywhere, there are more than several great reasons to choose Dallas for an upscale getaway or vacation.

Dallas might make you think of a lot of things: football, the Texas State Fair, big ’80s hair. What you might not immediately think of when someone mentions Dallas is taking a luxury vacation there. But Dallas is the largest and most-populous city in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, and wherever there’s a large city, you can almost guarantee that there will be plenty of businesses catering to those who want to spend a little extra money. Not all of your travels have to events you splash out on, but sometimes you do want to forget about money for a bit. There are some excellent reasons to choose Dallas for an upscale getaway or luxury vacation, whether you’re already in Texas or not.

Why Dallas for an Upscale Getaway?

You might wonder what there actually is to draw you to Dallas for an upscale getaway. It’s not just a large city, but also a cultured one, with plenty of history and, of course, a great love for sport. Whether you want to go and see the Cowboys or you’d prefer to spend your time visiting museums and galleries, there’s something for everyone in Dallas. It’s not just a one-dimensional city, and there’s more to it than the sterile and boring image that many people have. In fact, the current ad campaign from VisitDallas is encouraging people to “Discover the Many Sides of Dallas”. Whether you visit as a couple, a family, with friends, or solo, you’ll find plenty of things to see and do.

Getting There (and Around) in Style

There are many ways to arrive in Dallas, by car, train, bus, or plane. If you’re not traveling far, you might choose to enter by road or rail. If you like the romanticism of trains, your vacation to Texas might not be the best time to indulge in it. While there are two Amtrak routes that serve Dallas/Fort Worth, it’s not exactly the same as riding the Orient Express. For a more comfortable journey, you might want to drive in or even hire a driver. But if you’re coming from further afield, flying into either Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport or Love Field.

If you choose to fly, you’ll always have different levels of luxury you can plump for. They range from buying business class tickets to chartering your own private plane. If you want to go the private route, Stratos Jets can help you find the perfect plane for your purposes. Whether it’s just you and your spouse or you’re flying with a group, not having to share your plane with anyone else is a luxury you might not afford yourself often. It’s worth the price if you want to start your luxury vacation off right.

Once you’re in Dallas, you might also want to think about the best way to get around. Hiring a luxury car is one option, or perhaps getting a private chauffeur so you can be driven around. But if you’re not too worried about getting around in the most luxurious way possible, there’s also the trolley, buses, and taxis.

Where to Find a Luxury Stay in Dallas

Choosing the right place to stay can make or break your stay anywhere. Dallas offers some fantastic places to stay if you want to make sure you’re comfortable. The first thing to consider is whether you want a hotel or if you want to rent an apartment or even a house. You could also go halfway between the two and stay in a suite or apartment at a hotel so you can enjoy both a larger space and the facilities the hotel has to offer. If you want to go for a big name in the business, the Ritz-Carlton has city view suites, or junior and deluxe suites if you want something a little less pricey. You’ll also find The Statler Dallas, part of Hilton’s Curio Collection of unique hotels, which has five restaurants and lounges for guests to enjoy. You’ll also discover options from Hyatt, Four Seasons, The Westin, and more.

If you would prefer to have somewhere private to stay, an upscale apartment or a house in the center of all the action could be just what you need. You’ll find some of the best options on sites like Airbnb, where you could get a whole lot of luxury for less than you might spend on a hotel.  If you’re planning on traveling in a large group, this is your best option. You can get a place that suits everyone and has great amenities, like a pool.

The Best Dallas Restaurants

Texans love to eat, and you won’t find that Dallas is any different. If you’re looking for refined food, you won’t be disappointed by what the city has to offer. The French Room is extremely highly regarded, located within The Adolphus Hotel, and is a great choice for a romantic dinner. Try Abacus if you want to try out a tasting menu or have your pick from a range of cuisines, from sushi to steak and roasted quail. If you’re looking for a menu inspired by local food, go to the Lonesome Dove Western Bistro, owned by Iron Chef winner Tim Love.

Luxury Watering Holes in Dallas

Finding good restaurants is always essential, but sometimes you want somewhere to go after dinner too. Dallas has an active nightlife, and there are plenty of upscale bars and lounges for the discerning drinker. The Mansion Bar offers one option, found at the Rosewood Mansion hotel and offering the feel of a private club. They specialize in cocktails, and there’s contemporary cuisine to enjoy if you get peckish too. In fact, some of the best bars are found in luxury hotels, like The Library at the Warwick Melrose, where you can drink and be entertained by live music.

Whatever you choose to do in Dallas, make sure you spend your downtime living in the lap of luxury. There are so many ways to have a comfortable trip and avoid having to deal with some of the usual hassles of traveling. Plan your vacation in Dallas to give you the best experience possible.

Tips for Trip Success

Book Your Flight
Find an inexpensive flight by using CheapOAir, a favorite of ours because it regularly returns less expensive flight options from a variety of airlines.

Book Your Hotel or Special Accommodation
We are big fans of Booking.com. We like their review system and photos. If we want to see more reviews and additional booking options, we go to TripAdvisor.

You Need Travel Insurance!
Good travel insurance means having total peace of mind. Travel insurance protects you when your medical insurance often will not and better than what you get from your credit card. It will provide comprehensive coverage should you need medical treatment or return to the United States, compensation for trip interruption, baggage loss, and other situations.
