Windsor Suites Bangkok Hotel Review

By Betsy Wuebker 23 Comments

(Last Updated On: December 24, 2017)

Windsor Suites Bangkok is ideally located in the central Sukhumvit neighborhood, making it a fine base from which to spend your stay.

Our Experience at Windsor Suites Bangkok: Our spacious (45 square meters) one bedroom Executive Club King Suite was perfectly arranged for two digital nomads whose morning schedules vary. Pete, as the earliest riser, used the workspace in the living area close to the coffee-making facilities.

Buffered by the closet and bath area, Betsy could sleep in longer and work separately at the bedroom desk. Internet access was fast and reliable. This is a detail we’d prefer to have the luxury of never having to think about; at Windsor Suites, we didn’t have to give digital access any thought whatsoever.

The King Suite’s bath was renovated with luxurious and stylish features: glass vanity and clear 3-D basin, very well lit with differing electrical outlets for shavers and hair appliances, a telescoping magnifying mirror and wall-mounted hairdryer. (Itโ€™s a pleasure not to have to go searching for an adapter, or an outlet located outside of the bathroom, or a hairdryer in a drawer. Ostensibly, these design decisions are for our safety, but we find them inconvenient and sometimes exasperating.) Even though the bath had a substantial glass reveal to the sleeping area, roller shades could be lowered for privacy. This is also a detail that we very much appreciate.

Towels were thirsty and oversized. Executive Club branded/labeled bath amenities were generous and thoughtfully replenished.ย The wardrobe was replete with iron and ironing board, comfortable waffle weave robes and slippers.

While our room was a newly renovated oasis, other parts of the Windsor Suites and its experience appeared to be awaiting attention. Our PR contact at the hotel confirmed the transition. The hotel is undergoing major refurbishment, and marketing is spearheading changes in the customer service experience as well.ย As such, we were invited to two tastings at different hotel restaurants, and for a complimentary coupleโ€™s spa experience at Neva Spa in house at Windsor Suites Bangkok.

The Thai Massages we received at Neva Spa were superb. Neva Spaโ€™s atmosphere was aย throwback to when perhaps there was more leisure time available to experience lengthy and luxurious pampering. The reception and treatment rooms were spacious with vintage elements. The spa had no other customers during our visit and another time we arrived to take photos. Perhaps this underutilization is because the hotel markets itself to convention and special event visitors, where time is limited. At this point, the hotelโ€™s loss may be your gain, as you can pretty much have whatever you want whenever you want at Neva Spa.

Our first tasting was at the hotelโ€™s Pizza Connection restaurant, which is actually located in a free-standing building closer to the street from the main hotel. โ€œPizza Connectionโ€ is a misnomer. This restaurant is excellent in every way.

The menu is varied with Italian pasta and Thai dishes well-represented; the pizza is perfectly done with a variety of toppings. Pizza Connection’s management team is alert to every possible detail, and the chef delivers a delicious array of choice, particularly to those of us whose Western palates are in need of attention.

Our second tasting was an outstanding presentation of dim sum at the hotelโ€™s Golden Palace Chinese restaurant, each item more delicious than the last and beautifully presented.

The restaurant was pretty much deserted at lunch time, however. We had visited a few days earlier on our own for dinner, and it was clear they were unprepared for us at 6:00pm, even though that is their stated opening hour. Our dinners came separately, in reverse order, drinks were lost in transit, and there wasnโ€™t a staff member in sight for long periods of time while we waited, alone at our table. While our second visit was much nicer, we couldnโ€™t help but feel that the staff was on its best behavior because we were pre-announced VIP guests. This is a shame, because the combination of very good food and elegant traditional atmosphere should be a consistent winner. The Golden Palace may be at a disadvantage for walk-in business due to its mezzanine location as well. Promotional marketing and a more consistent customer experience would go a long way to fill this restaurant with the customers it deserves.

The hotel lobby is resplendent with different seating zones and friendly staff who deliver happy hour cocktails with big smiles in an atmosphere which gives a nod to bygone splendor. We really enjoyed getting to know our servers at the lobby bar, one of whom had been honored in a national bartending competition. Happy Hour is 2 for 1 for Executive Club guests. We liked this perk!

Open to the lobby via a few steps is the Windsor Suite Cafe. This is the hotelโ€™s moderate dining option with breakfast, lunch and dinner buffets as well as an a la carte menu. Somehow we were never in sync with the lunch time. Arriving after 2:00 pm on a couple of days, we were served a la carte amidst cleaning and setup. Staff was preoccupied both times, and food quality was just fair. We attempted the dinner buffet, but were told on two occasions our party of two could not be accommodated because of large groups. This was a confusing response, as there were clearly empty tables awaiting diners when we approached.

The Executive Club breakfast was a daily treat. A full buffet with Western, Thai and other Asian choices ensured no one left hungry. The views are spectacular from the Executive Club dining area.

Windsor Suites Bangkok is conveniently located off Sukhumvit Road in Soi 20, a short walk from both BTS and Metro stations, shopping, and restaurants. We were very comfortable in this neighborhood after a previous stay, and would definitely consider it again.

Favorite Details: The bidet seat in the bathroom deserves special mention! (The first time weโ€™ve ever mentioned a toilet seat as a favorite detail, trust us!) A bit intimidated at first, we were quickly converted. A trio of controls provides front bidet, back bidet and even odor control. The lid and seat are on a delayed lowering mechanism โ€“ no slamming allowed!

The bathtub plug was magnetized, always within easy sight for bathers. Rainshower or handheld shower options ensured a choice of experiences; as well, the tub is deep and long for luxuriating. An integrated surface bubble design gives non-slip texture to the floor of the tub โ€“ so much more appealing than a slippy rubber bath mat or adhesive decals.

The spacious suite layout as mentioned above was perhaps the best feature of our experience. The size and amenities felt luxurious, bright and open. We were both very productive in our separate spaces in the suite, and this aspect along with the convenient location induced us to extend our stay with Windsor Suites.

Pricing:ย Deluxe Suites on lower floors can be booked as low as $59 per night. Executive Club Suites such as ours can be booked at the time of this writing at $84 per night, with breakfast included. Corner Suites with panoramic views, 2-bedroom Family Suites, Penthouse, Presidential and Long Stay Suites (with en-suite washer/dryer and cooking facilities) are also available.

Our Rating: ***1/2 ย -Even though it’s billed as a 3-star depending upon which resource you consult, we think the overall experience at Windsor Suites Bangkok exceeds that designation. This hotel has the potential to be a 4-star property, even if they’re currently only working up to that level. There is a sizable infrastructure which would support a 4-star experience, with the variety of amenities 4-star guests expect. And there are many dedicated staff members who appear committed to delivering. However, not everyone appears to have received the memo. Once all are on board and additional updates are made to the facility, Windsor Suites will be a solid 4-star contender.

Windsor Suites Executive Lounge view

Disclosure: The first three nights in our Executive Club level king suite, breakfast, Neva Spa, happy hour and restaurant experiences at the Pizza Connection, Atrium Lounge and Golden Palace were complimentary. We extended our stay by one week at a media rate including breakfast, and paid for all other expenses we incurred.

From your description of the room and amenities, Windsor Suites Hotel sounds like a good value for the price. I think those views I can only glimpse from your photos might distract me from any work though!

The nightly rate at the Bangkok was surprisingly low and a great value. Your room looked spacious, bright and very comfortable and all the amenities you mentioned had me wanting to book a visit. Like you, I’d be tempted to extend my stay, especially after feasting on the dim sum!

Hi Anita – Yes, the spaciousness of the room, and the divided layout were perfect for longer stays. The enormous windows in the bedroom with such an exceptional view were a great feature, too.

I love the value you get for rooms in that part of the world; the Executive Club price is ridiculously low for such luxury! I noted the wall mounted make up mirror and wondered if it is installed for tall or short folks? I’ve noted in our recent stays at a variety of hotels, that at just 5′ tall (or short, depending on your point of view ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) the mirrors are so high that I either see the top of my head or to get the face in view through my head so far back that I couldn’t ever put the make up on. We will definitely keep this place in mind – nice review. Happy New Year!!

Hi Jackie – The wall-mounted mirror was a little too high for me. I’m about 5’6″ so I used the tilt swivel feature and it worked okay. But the rest of the bathroom is so awesome, I didn’t really mind!

As I was reading your review of the Windsor Suites Hotel I was wondering how much the nightly rate was and was thoroughly surprised at the reasonable rate you mentioned. It certainly seems good value for your stay in one of the renovated suites. One to remember!

Like the others who have commented, I was really surprised at the low price of the room. OK, shocked. Your review was really balanced and I could see the good and not-so-good. It does sound like the hotel and restaurants have potential and the accommodation and view would be perfect. I think they need to change the name “Pizza Connection”. From your description, it sounded much nicer than its name. (Being Chinese and loving dim sum) , I LOVED the picture of the dim sum!

Wow! The Windsor Suites Bangkok looks like it could be in Manhattan—but certainly not at those prices. As you suggest, it is service that makes a property stand out from the rest.

This is hands down one of the most helpful hotel reviews I’ve read (and I’ve read a lot) for a comped or uncomped stay. As others have pointed out, the prices quoted for rooms at the Windsor Suites Bangkok are pretty amazing for US or Western European readers. Given the suite (sweet) set up, I can easily understand why you decided to extend your stay. Wishing you and Pete safe and happy travels in 2016.
