This is a guest post from Peter Lee. Over the past few years, the global focus for business is shifting from the west to the east with many Asian countries cropping up as lucrative options for work and entrepreneurial endeavors. Singapore is one of the current hotspots for professionals from all across the globe. However, to be able to judiciously follow a career path, there are few things that need to be avoided as well as a few things that are best kept in mind while applying for employment in Singapore.

The blooming Singaporean economy is currently capable of offering innumerable work opportunities to professionals worldwide. With the ease in obtaining the Singapore Employment Pass, it has become an even more inviting option.

Consequently, what are considered the best options for work in Singapore? The latest research shows that Information Technology has taken the lead in the industrial section. With the world turning digital, no sphere can escape from the impact of IT, making it the most remunerative industry not only in Singapore but globally. Following IT are banking and financial services – the next big thing. All the big daddies of banking have their branches in Singapore; it has become one of the most palatable work options, offering both big names and big money.

Currently, Singapore is all about big, fancy names. However, for employees, it’s the unprecedented benefits and security that can come only by being associated with the biggest names in industry like Apple, Google, Microsoft, Accenture, Procter and Gamble, Deloitte, Ernst and Young, Hewlett-Packard and HSBC, etc. All the companies that have made it to the Top-20 list of the companies in Singapore have strength of size: 8000 or more employees- the bigger, the better. Adding to this, LinkedIn came up with the list of the biggest and the most sought after businesses in Singapore. In addition to the companies mentioned above, the top 20 names on LinkedIn’s list include IBM, Oracle, Standard Chartered Bank, Cisco, Citi, Barclays Investment Bank, Deutsche Bank, SingTel, DBS Bank, Credit Suisse, NCS Group, OCBC Bank, and Procter and Gamble.

It is not only with the big names that you can earn the big bucks. A number of promising businesses are emerging that can be viewed as good avenues to grow professionally and earn a decent amount of money. These emerging industries include the automotive industry, lifestyle products and services, and sports. Along with these, there is always the time-tested and proven food and hospitality industry. Singapore, being a much sought after tourist destination for people from all across the globe, welcomes innovation and still seems to have brilliant options for young, professionals early in their careers.

Singapore has a lot to offer in terms of career options. If you’re contemplating a decision to go global, weigh the available options and choose the industry and type of business, using prospective economic growth as well as your own interests and aptitude to decide.

Tips for Trip Success

Book Your Flight
Find an inexpensive flight by using CheapOAir, a favorite of ours because it regularly returns less expensive flight options from a variety of airlines.

Book Your Hotel or Special Accommodation
We are big fans of Booking.com. We like their review system and photos. If we want to see more reviews and additional booking options, we go to TripAdvisor.

You Need Travel Insurance!
Good travel insurance means having total peace of mind. Travel insurance protects you when your medical insurance often will not and better than what you get from your credit card. It will provide comprehensive coverage should you need medical treatment or return to the United States, compensation for trip interruption, baggage loss, and other situations.
