For everyone who wants to experience Germany’s most beautiful nature, the Black Forest is an absolute must-see!

The Black Forest in Germany is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the country’s most popular tourist destinations. Located in the southwestern corner of the state of Baden-Württemberg, in south Germany, this beautiful region is known for its lush forests, crystal clear lakes, and many Spas. The region covers an area of almost 4,250 square miles and is home to some of the most spectacular nature in Europe.

The thick forest consists mainly of coniferous trees such as spruce, fir, and pine, providing an impressive backdrop for visitors to explore. Many different trails throughout the forest will lead you to some of the most breathtaking viewpoints, lakes, and waterfalls. You can find hiking trails for beginners or experienced hikers, ranging from shorter ones around 2-3 miles to longer ones about 15 miles!

What Are Some of the Best Things to Do in the Black Forest?

Some of the best things to do are to visit the Triberger waterfalls, explore the Gutach Valleys, climb up the Treetop Walk in Bad Wildbad, and walk the Wildline Suspension Bridge in the heart of the Black Forest. But if you’re looking for something more relaxing, visit a Spa and dip in one of the many thermal baths in the area.

Everywhere in the Black Forest, you will find typical German food, but on top of that, the region has its own culinary classics, such as Flammkuchen (Tarte Flambée), Schwarzwälder Kirschtorte (Black Forest Cake) and Baumkuchen (Tree Cake). The Black Forest is also renowned for its delicious wines produced from the region’s many vineyards.

1. Freiburg im Breisgau

It’s located near the edge of the Black Forest, making it an ideal base for exploring the beautiful nature that surrounds the city. Freiburg im Breisgau is known for its striking architecture, with the Freiburg Minster (Freiburg Cathedral) being its iconic city landmark. For all adrenaline junkies, we highly recommend taking a day trip to the nearby Europa Park!

The in-house café and lounge, Brother & Sister, is one of the best cafés in town and offers all kinds of breakfast and coffee options, including vegan ones.

3. Konstanz

Konstanz is a great place to stay near the southern Black Forest if you’re looking for a chance to explore it and its beauty. Located near the border of Switzerland, just outside the Black Forest, this city in the Baden-Württemberg region offers stunning views of Lake Constance and the nearby Alps.

You can also find several historical landmarks in Konstanz, such as the late Gothic-style Cathedral and numerous museums and galleries. Lake Constance is also a great place to take out a boat and explore the region from a different perspective.

Hotel Halm
