We’ve all heard that the Japanese are crazy (in the best possible way), having a great knack for making everything from movies and gadgets to food and accommodation, bigger, better and more fun than anywhere else on the planet and to a large extent, it’s true. If you want to have a fun time, then you could do a lot worse than book a trip to Japan.

Here are some of the craziest fun things to do in Japan:

Dine in a Robot Restaurant
Yes, you heard us right, you can actually eat at a robot restaurant in Japan. As you enjoy your meal at this Shinjuku marvel, you’ll be treated to an array of robots, lasers and lights all coming together to put on the weirdest cabaret show you’ve ever seen. If you want to make lasting memories, then you won’t be disappointed by this fabulous attraction.

Cycle the Noto Peninsula
If you’re looking for something a little more sedate, but still a lot of fun to do in Japan, check out self-guided cycling tours in Japan; Japan cycling tours, and get on your bike. Why? Because not only will you get to see Japan in all of its glorious beauty, but you will be approached on your travels by many interesting and eccentric locals who are up for a chat, and you will get the down-low on the bets off the beaten track things to do while you’re there.

Stay in a Karaoke Hotel
Just opposite the Robot Restaurant, you’ll notice a building that looks like your average chain hotel, but it’s not! It’s actually a 20-story Karaoke Hotel, where you can dress up in silly outfits, drink exciting, exotic drinks and sing until you’re hoarse. It’s so much fun.

Take a Picture with the Harajuku Girls
Take a walk down Takeshita Street in Tokyo, and you’ll come across some very interesting looking girls with a distinctly different fashion sense. These are the famous Harajuku girls, and they are more than happy to take a snap or two with you if you’re willing to ask.

Feed the Monkeys

Visit Monkey Park Iwatayama in Arashiyama, which is affectionately known as Monkey Mountain, and you’ll be greeted by literally hundreds of monkeys who are running completely free. You, on the other hand, will be expected to stay behind a fence, but you will be able to offer the cute critters a snack or two and chances are they will entertain you a little in return.

Buy Beer from a Vending Machine
In Japan, you can buy pretty much anything from a vending machine, and it’s a lot of fun doing a mini tour of them when you’re in a big city to see what you can find. As well as beer, you’re likely to come across hamburgers, ramen and even puppies.

Picnic Under a Cherry Blossom Tree
Moving back to the more sedate and down to earth, if you happen to be in Japan in the spring, you can’t beat packing a bento box of delicious Japanese foods and heading off to one of the many parks where you can sit in the shade of a beautiful cherry blossom tree.

Tips for Trip Success

Book Your Flight
Find an inexpensive flight by using CheapOAir, a favorite of ours because it regularly returns less expensive flight options from a variety of airlines.

Book Your Hotel or Special Accommodation
We are big fans of Booking.com. We like their review system and photos. If we want to see more reviews and additional booking options, we go to TripAdvisor.

You Need Travel Insurance!
Good travel insurance means having total peace of mind. Travel insurance protects you when your medical insurance often will not and better than what you get from your credit card. It will provide comprehensive coverage should you need medical treatment or return to the United States, compensation for trip interruption, baggage loss, and other situations.
