Serenity at the Silken Park Hotel San Jorge

By Betsy Wuebker 23 Comments

(Last Updated On: January 27, 2020)

Opening our door, we hear the breathing of the sea. “Oh, how can this be anything but great?” Pete sighs. It’s serenity at the Silken Park Hotel San Jorge.

The Silken Park Hotel San Jorge sits atop a rugged cliff along the Costa Brava’s Cami de Ronda walking trail in Platja d’Aro. We recently spent a few days sequestered there in heavenly peace. You’ll love it, too.

Serenity from Sea Views: If there’s anything more serene than a view of the sea, let us know. The sea is part of everything you do at the Hotel San Jorge. You taste it in the flavors of the restaurant. You sit for hours in one place, a book idle in your lap perhaps, just looking. You feel it closer in the night and hear it whisper, “Breathe with me and I’ll soothe you.”

Simplicity and Sophistication: If this were Hollywood, the Silken Park Hotel San Jorge would be Grace Kelly or Audrey Hepburn: deceptively simple, sophisticated and worldly, clad in a cashmere twinset with a strand of pearls and a vintage Hermes bag. The hotel is rightfully one of the grande dames of Platja d’Aro, but her atmosphere is embracing with nary a stuffy element.  It is a property that you know is of a certain age, but more elegant than any brash youngster could hope to be.

Simple and elegant public area

The Silken Hotel San Jorge is all cool marble and woodgrain floorboards, acres of white with terra-cotta tile, graceful wrought iron and geranium, and vast blue vistas toward Cap Roig and beyond.

Your bed linens have a thread count in the gazillions, your pillows are perfect. There’s a simple cafe table on your balcony for coffee in the morning or cava at night. Thoughtful details – plenty of storage, convenient electric outlets with ample desk space, and quality toiletries – appear throughout your personal living space. Everything has been designed for you to relax and clear your mind.

Spa and Wellness Services: Care for the mind is balanced with care for the body at the Silken Park Hotel San Jorge Spa. We did the Couples Spa Circuit: an hour-long series of experiences in the spa pool, Turkish bath, Finnish sauna, and three different sensation showers. The treatment menu is filled with body and facial rejuvenation experiences, holistic and physiotherapy services, depilation, pedicures and manicures.

Swimming and sunbathing: Poolside at the Silken Park Hotel San Jorge is sybaritic, suspended as you feel between land and sea. About the only thing that surprised us was the pool temperature. Unheated is a bit cold for our tropical tastes, but we found this typical for Spain.

The beach area in front of Cap Roig is reached by descending the cliff in easy to manage steps, although there are many. The sand is soft and fine, plus there is a little independent restaurant with WC facilities at one end.

Sustenance: The Restaurante Mar Brava at the Silken Park Hotel San Jorge is where you take a leisurely breakfast between 8 and 10:30am. It’s a tranquil space, and you have the option of dining al fresco on terrace or balcony. Everywhere is a sea view. Take a look at the video we did of the morning buffet (click here if you can’t see in email):

When it’s dinner time, there are fixed price and ala carte options in the Restaurante Mar Brava. All are beautifully presented from a contemporary menu, featuring fresh, organic local food.

You can also choose from the more casual bar menu. Be served inside or out.

Or, if you simply cannot leave the serenity of your private space, room service is delivered quickly from a comprehensive (and reasonably priced) menu.

Summary: San Jorge is the heroic patron saint of Spain, famously killing the dragon with his sword to rescue those in distress. It’s a fitting name for a hotel property which will rescue you from yours. As the end of our stay drew near, we found ourselves scheming as to how we might linger a few more days, or even weeks. But even now, the vivid memory brings back the elegant tranquility we savored.

We stayed in a complimentary sea view room which included breakfast at the Silken Park Hotel San Jorge, and were the hotel’s guests for a Couples Spa Circuit Experience. We paid for the remainder of our meals and additional services. As always, opinions are our own.

Tips for Trip Success

Book Your Flight
Find an inexpensive flight by using CheapOAir, a favorite of ours because it regularly returns less expensive flight options from a variety of airlines.

Book Your Hotel or Special Accommodation
We are big fans of Booking.com. We like their review system and photos. If we want to see more reviews and additional booking options, we go to TripAdvisor.

You Need Travel Insurance!
Good travel insurance means having total peace of mind. Travel insurance protects you when your medical insurance often will not and better than what you get from your credit card. It will provide comprehensive coverage should you need medical treatment or return to the United States, compensation for trip interruption, baggage loss, and other situations.
